Top 5 Wedding Regrets
Your wedding day is one of the most memorable moments of your life, but many couples look back with a few "if onlys".
ο»ΏWhether it’s overspending, missing special moments, or simply stressing too much, wedding regrets are more common than you’d think. The good news? You can learn from others’ mistakes and make your big day as perfect as possible.
Here are the top 5 wedding regrets couples share—and how you can avoid them!
1. Time β³
The number one regret is not taking enough time to enjoy the day. It flashes by in a heart-beat so take it all in, and enjoy the day!
How to avoid it
- Schedule private moments for just you and your partner.
- Don’t overfill the timeline, allow space to breathe.
- Consider a first look before the ceremony to have a quiet, intimate moment together.
2. Not filming your day π₯
While having a photographer for still images is a tradition, many brides, grooms, and guests deeply regret not hiring a videographer. A video captures the essence of the day, allowing you to relive those moments forever in a way that photos alone cannot.
How to avoid it
- Decide what you want filming (e.g. just the ceremony or the whole day so you can relive your moment) and have a budget in mind
- Chose a professional videographer and check out their work.

3. Not Eating π
There is a lot going on so its really important you eat so you can enjoy the day, especially if you are having the odd glass of bubbly.
How to avoid it
- Take in a snack after the ceremony when nerves may be less frayed
- Ask your maid of honour or best man to remind you to eat
- Snack smart with a protein bar or nearby smoothie
4. Drinking too much π·
The day goes quick enough so pace yourself. Its a long day and as they say its a marathon not a sprint.
How to avoid it
- Limit pre-wedding drinks, maybe a little to calm nerves but not too many to make you tipsy
- Eat before & during the reception to avoid an empty stomach
- Pace yourself, alternate water between alcohol or try low alcohol cocktails
5. Overspending π°
Weddings can get expensive fast. Many couples regret spending too much on things that didn’t matter....or running out of money before covering essentials.
How to avoid it
- Set a realistic budget and prioritise what matters most (venue, food, videography, etc.).
- Use a wedding budget tracker to keep expenses under control.
- Remember: Guests won’t remember the expensive napkins, but they will remember the experience! And you may want to look back on your day by watching your wedding film, something that will last far longer than the cake!
